Hello, literary agents! Here you’ll find my manuscript wishlist.
I gravitate toward stories that break my heart before (just barely) putting the pieces back together. Ones built around human connection and maybe even a little bit of magic. If that’s feeling a bit vague, then I'm always looking for lyrical or funny picture books that balance heart and humor, grim and adventurous MG graphic novels and illustrated chapter books, and a wide variety of YA graphic novels too difficult to narrow down but know that I love dark, fantastical, and emotional storytelling and have always had a soft spot for magical realism and the slightly speculative.
Though I’m not looking for prose at the moment, I’m especially hungry for picture books and YA graphic novels and would love to see:
Queer and BIPOC voices
Picture books that resonate with both adults and kids
Contemporary graphic novels with vibrant and atmospheric art styles
Middle Eastern/North African characters
Lyrical novel-in-verse with a fantastical bent
Deaf characters
Best friends at the root of YA
MG that’s both fun and eerie
YA romance that will keep me up all night
Books of all ages on speech impediments
Joyful queer stories to fill the Schitt’s Creek shaped hole in my heart
Ghosts, but kind ones
Magical realism
Faustian deals gone wrong
Sentient spaces
Characters obsessed with movies, photography, books, and/or art history
I may not be the best fit for historical, sci-fi, or high fantasy but I've been known to make an exception for the right art style . . .
TV shows are my love language so if you can compare your submission to any of the following, I’m already hooked: Fleabag, Normal People, Heartstopper, My Lady Jane, Bridgerton (but only season 2), Schitt’s Creek, Ramy, Pushing Daisies, Sense8, The OA, The Bear, Our Flag Means Death, We Are Lady Parts, Miracle Workers, Ted Lasso, What We Do in the Shadows, One Day, Killing Eve, The Haunting of Hill House. For the visual learners out there, check out this Pinterest board version of my MSWL. If your submissions feels like one of these or could even use one as a cover, I want to see it! If you want examples of what I love to read, here’s a list of books that I can never stop talking about.
Penguin Young Readers allows agents to submit to multiple imprints at once but please only submit to one Viking Children’s Books editor at a time. Viking editors include Tamar Brazis, Jenny Bak, Kelsey Murphy, Dana Leydig, Maggie Rosenthal, Aneeka Kalia, Claire Tattersfield, and AZ Hackett. If it’s not a fit for me, it’s most likely a perfect fit for another Viking. More information on their manuscript wish lists here.
Viking Children's Books does not accept unsolicited submissions. Agented submissions only.
